“Is it racist? I think it goes beyond that. Should they have put the images of blackamoors on their earrings and dresses? No. That is racially insensitive - they simply don’t care how those images impact a black North American perspective.
However, Europeans have a different view on race and racism and don’t seem to really acknowledge the legacy of slavery / racism that we do from our North American experiences as it was not as destructive in Europe.
I think that people who object to this clothing line do have a point, but to me it says that the designers simply do not care one way or another. The line was not created with ‘us’ in mind to purchase, and obviously our opinions do not matter.”
